The institute
Ubufazi means womanhood. That is the whole brief.
Ubufazi is womanhood in isiZulu and isiXhosa. Ubufazi Health exists for one measurable outcome: South African women’s cancers found at an earlier stage. Not awareness for its own sake. Stage shift, province by province, year on year.
Editorial & clinical policy
Every clinical page is written against published evidence, reviewed by a registered health professional, graded, dated, and given a next-review date. Where the evidence is contested we say so rather than smoothing it over.
- Named reviewer with HPCSA registration on every clinical page
- Evidence grade A–E displayed on the page, not buried in a footnote
- Review cycle of 12 months maximum, sooner when guidance changes
- Sources listed, NDoH policy, NCR, WHO, peer-reviewed literature
- Corrections published openly, with the date and what changed
- No diagnosis, no prescription. We inform; clinicians treat
Sponsorship, and the firewall
Ubufazi is free to every woman and funded by sponsorship, partnerships and B2B workplace subscriptions. No sponsor sees copy before publication. No sponsor approves a claim or a conclusion. Sponsored education is badged on every page, every time. A sponsor who asks for editorial control is refused and, where it matters to readers, named.
Languages
Ubufazi publishes in English today. We are not going to claim otherwise on a page a woman may act on. isiZulu and isiXhosa are next, for the highest-traffic clinical pages first, then Afrikaans and Sesotho.
Every translation will be done by health translators and re-reviewed clinically. Unsupervised machine translation of clinical content is not safe, and we will not use it.
Accessibility: WCAG 2.2 AA
4.5:1 minimum contrast · full keyboard navigation · semantic headings · alt text on every image · skip link · reduced-motion support · text scales to 200% without breaking · every chart also readable as a table.
Privacy & POPIA
We store no health profiles. Subscription means an email address, a province, and the date you consented, nothing else. WhatsApp numbers are SHA-256 hashed and never stored in the clear. Data is hosted in South Africa. One click unsubscribes, and one word (STOP) ends WhatsApp forever.
